Cadillac's BARK IN
THE PARK is Howling Fun

If you are a dog and had a few hours free on Thursday, July 26th (plus a set of car keys) then Cadillac's BARK IN THE PARK was the place to spend your dog day afternoon. Dogs participated in a parde, doggie/owner look-a-like contest, amazing trick contest and best costume contest. There was also an obstacle course, Doggie IQ and Good Doggie Contest that ran throughout the afternoon.

The event was sponsored by 9&10 News, Lutheran Manor and Northwoods Feed and Supply. Food and beverages were sold during the event to benefit Mercy Home Care and Hospice.

This annual event also takes place in Mt. Pleasant a little earlier in the year and both events are a fun time to fit into your busy summer schedule.

Murphy, the two-year-old Airedale does a practice run through the obstacle course.
Bay sits and waits for his hot dog order to arrive. He is a six-year-old from a Weimaraner rescue group and he's a certified therapy dog. Owner: Denny Montague.
Maggie, the Golden Retriever, celebrated her third birthday by winning the Best Obedience Contest. Owner Lizzie Badovinac helped Maggie choose her prize out of a toy box. Maggie also won treats and a grooming certificate.
Sandy, a three-month-old Chihuahua and Pomeranian mix, was all ears as dogs passed by. There were many cocker spaniels around, including this 11 week old baby girl.
Midnight, a small-five- month old female Pomeranian/Chow mix, owned by Jan Timmer, mingles with the crowd at Bark in the Park.
Sassy, a three-year-old Poodle, takes a break from the festivities. Owner Georgia Tully mentioned an unusal dietary favorite of Sassy's - she likes sauerkraut! Cooper, the Yorkie mix, won first place in the Costume Contest. Owner: Sherry Starkey.
"SuperDog" won third place in the costume contest.
A couple of coyboys showed up to try to wrangle the dogs together to compete in the Best Costume Contest.
Holly won second place in Best Costume Contest. Maggie shows everyone what an angel she is during the Best Costume Contest.

More Recalled Dog Food

July 21, 2007 from the FDA

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is expanding its July 18 warning to consumers. This expansion is for consumers and pet owners regarding canned food products and dog food produced by Castleberry Food Company of Augusta, Ga., due to the risk of botulinum toxin. Castleberry is expanding the recall to include all of the following canned products with all "best by" and code dates, and FDA is warning consumers not to purchase or eat any of the canned products listed below.

Natural Balance Eatables dog food varieties:
Irish Stew with Beef Dog Food (15 oz.) - UPC code 23633-59860
Chinese Take Out with Sauce with Vegetables and Chicken Dog Food (15 oz.) - UPC code 23633-59861
Southern Style Dumplings with Gravy with Chicken and Vegetables (15 oz.) - UPC code 23633-59862
Hobo Chili with Chicken Pasta Dog Food (15 oz.) - UPC code 23633-59863
The disease has only been seen occasionally in dogs and has not been reported in cats. Ferrets are highly susceptible to botulinum toxin. The incubation period can be 2 hours to 2 weeks; in most cases, the symptoms appear after 12 to 24 hours. Botulism is characterized by progressive motor paralysis. Typical clinical signs may include muscle paralysis, difficulty breathing, chewing and swallowing, visual disturbances and generalized weakness may also occur. Death usually results from paralysis of the respiratory or cardiac muscles. Pet owners who have used these products and whose pets have these symptoms should contact their veterinarian immediately. At this time we are not aware of pet illnesses associated with these products although we recommend that all these products should be discarded. For more information please see the FDA website at http://www.fda.gov/opacom/7alerts.html.
