Michigan Humane Lobby Day
Think only professional lobbyists can lobby? Think again! Come to our free Michigan Humane Lobby Day in Lansing on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 to make a tremendous difference for animals. This is an exciting opportunity to meet directly with your elected officials or their staff about legislation that will significantly impact animals. There will be a briefing on tips for lobbying and an overview of pending animal legislation that will prepare you to meet your elected officials and advocate for animals.

Business After Hours
Location: Spike's Keg O Nails, 301 N. James St., Grayling, MI.
The Medicine Shoppe and AuSable Valley Animal Shelter will host this Grayling Regional Chamber of Commerce event. Business After Hours events give local business people and citizens an opportunity to gather in a casual setting and learn about the services and offerings of Chamber member businesses. The events are always fun and relaxing, with great food, and short presentations by the hosts. There is a door prize drawing, too. Admission is $5 for Chamber members and $10 for non-members.

HSUS Disaster Animal Response Training (DART)
Humane Society of Huron Valley, Ann Arbor
The HSUS Disaster Animal Response Training is the premier basic training for animal disaster responders nationwide. This 3-day course is designed to familiarize participants with disaster situations and provide the background necessary to become an effective emergency animal relief responder. The class includes two days of mixed classroom/hands-on instruction and a long half-day of specialized tabletop exercises. After completion of DART, graduates will have a basic understanding of disaster response for animals and will be in a position to help develop their own local DART teams.
Course Topics: Introduction to animals in disaster; Animal care and handling; Animal Rescue and transport; Incident Command System (ICS); Legal issues; Safety; Communications; Taking care of the team; Community animal needs; Damage assessment; Team response and procedures & Emergency animal shelter.

Grateful Dog Walk & Run
Join Little Traverse Bay Humane Society and fellow dog lovers on a 5K Walk/Run through beautiful northern Michigan. Ask your family, friends and neighbors to sponsor you and your dog while you walk or run to raise funds for LTBHS. Help us care for over 400 dogs and cats each year! Great vendors will be on hand to offer anything you may need for both animal care and running/walking supplies. PoochFest (Boyne City Veterans Park) -
Poochfest is an educational and entertainment event. Entrants participate in games with their dogs, enjoy demonstrations of canine prowess, shop a variety of pet related vendors and compete for prizes in a wide variety of “contests” such as “Smartest Dog”, “Best Vocal Performance”, "Best Frisbee Catcher", etc. Over the last four years participation from the community has increased steadily so that 2009, even though the weather did not cooperate, saw nearly 500 participants. Weiner Dog Races (Charlevoix Oktoberfest)
Weiner dog races are for the dachsunds of the area and their owners to come out, celebrate their pets unique qualities and have a ton of fun. Win prizes for best costume, biggest and smallest "weiner dog" and, of course, for the fastest weiner dog! Charlevoix Humane Society fundraising event.
