Our Staff
Dr. Michael P. Hayes is the co-owner of Old Town Psychological Services and also serves as the clinical and executive director. He has served in this capacity since 1999. Previously, he worked in various capacities for the community mental health system. He has worked in private practice since 1993 in the Grand Traverse Region. He received his undergraduate degree in psychology in 1990 from Central Michigan University. He later completed a master's degree program at Goddard College in counseling and psychology in 1993. He then completed a Ph.D. program in clinical psychology in 1996 at The Union Institute Graduate School. He is licensed as a psychologist in the State of Michigan and is also a member of the Michigan Psychological Association and American Psychological Association. His specialty areas in clinical service are in psychological testing and evaluation, posttraumatic stress disorder, attention deficit disorders, depression/anxiety, evaluation and treatment of various childhood disorders, serving individuals undergoing Bariatric surgery and custody and divorce issues.

Curt Cummins has served as the medical director of Old Town Psychological Services since 2002. He is a board certified psychiatrist who obtained his Medical degree from the University of Michigan and completed his internship and residency in Psychiatry at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics.  He is also a staff physician at Munson Medical Center.

Brian Majerczyk is a staff psychologist with Old Town Psychological Services and has been with the organization since 2000. He has earned a Masters degree in Behavioral Psychology from Western Michigan University. He is currently employed on a full time basis as a psychologist in Michigan's prison system. Current specialties include working with children with behavioral disorders, providing group counseling services and treating substance abuse disorders. In addition, he provides disability evaluations and consults on issues pertaining to behavioral psychology.

Jeff Smith is a staff therapist with Old Town Psychological Services and he has worked with our organization since 1999. He completed a Bachelor's degree in Psychology while attending Michigan State University and later completed a Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work while attending the University of Michigan. Jeff has over thirty years of professional experience working in the mental health field. He has worked with children, adolescents and adults in both community mental health and private practice settings. He is currently a member of NASW. His specialty areas include treatment of depression, anxiety and Bi-polar Disorders and providing marriage and family counseling services.

Theresa Stack is a clinical therapist at Old Town Psychological Services. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Recreational Therapy from Central Michigan University. She completed a second Master’s degree in Social Work from Grand Valley State University. Theresa has worked in the mental health field for over twenty years and for eight years in the public school system. She is a Licensed Master’s level Social Worker and a member of the National Association of Social Workers. Specialties include provision of individual and group therapy for adults, adolescents, and children in the areas of depression, anxiety, attention deficit disorder, grief, and post-traumatic stress disorder. In addition she specializes in family and marriage counseling, including the areas of divorce and child custody. Theresa also works with many veterans at the Vet Center in Traverse City.

James Talbott is a staff psychologist with Old Town Psychological Services and he joined the organization in 1999. He earned his Master's degree in Clinical Psychology from Eastern Michigan University. He has worked in the mental health field for over thirty years mainly in the public mental health system. He continues to work on a full time basis for Northern Lakes Community Mental Health and works in the emergency and counseling departments. Jim is a member of the Michigan Association of Professional Psychologists. He currently specializes in providing disability evaluations, psychological testing, treatment of depression/anxiety, and crisis intervention.

Jenny Phelan joined Old Town Psychological Services in the spring of 2006 and works as Dr. Hayes’ assistant, and a test technician. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Western Michigan University, and is completing a Master’s degree in Social Work from Grand Valley State University. She is skilled in crisis intervention, and is certified by ASIST, a suicide intervention program.

Carol Anderson joined Old Town Psychological Services as a staff therapist in January of 2011. She has been educated and trained the fields of social work, spirituality, and hypnosis. Dr. Anderson has over 25 years of experience in the fields of mental health and addictions – primarily as a therapist, but also as a program developer and clinical director. She has a Doctor of Ministry degree in Spirituality with a focus on interfaith practice, and is a Certified Hypnotherapist. She is the author of Where All Our Journey’s End: Searching for the Beloved in Everyday Life. Her therapeutic style is one of nurturance, support, acceptance, and humor. Dr. Anderson believes that our sorrow and pain, as well as our joy and blessings, are to be embraced and that therapy can help one through various life issues.

Jeffrey W. Katke has been a counselor at Old Town Psychological Services since winter of 2010. He is a graduate of Oakland University, and has a Master of Arts in Counseling. He is also a member of Chi Sigma Iota Honor Society. Jeff is a Certified Veteran Service Officer (CVSO) helping veterans in the area. He is a husband, a father, and a grandfather, having experienced the loss of a job, home, wife, and granddaughter. He specializes in counseling individuals, couples, and groups. Jeff is experienced in counseling those who are grieving, adjusting to life changes, have anxiety, depression, and mood disorders. His therapy techniques include Client-centered Therapy, Cognitive-behavioral Therapy, and Exposure Therapy.

Kristina Simerson joined Old Town Psychological Services in the fall of 2007 and holds the position of Billing and Office Manager. She has experience working with community outreach programs, and is knowledgeable in helping clients connect with available resources. Kristina is active in a support group in her free time.
